Thanks to you, more women are empowered to lead their families and girls are making more informed choices about their health.
Zambezia, the second most-populated province of Mozambique, has one of the highest rates of chronic child malnutrition in Mozambique. Almost half of children under 5 fail to reach their full physical and cognitive potential. Gender and social norms contribute to early marriage and childbirth for adolescent girls. Women hold little decision-making power in the household.
So many challenges face the women and girls of Mozambique. Yet, PCI is embarking on solutions thanks to your support. Building on the successful communication tools and lessons learned from programs such as Ouro Negro, PCI Media is working on a new Social and Behavior Change (SBCC) program to address early pregnancy, family planning, and child nutrition in Mozambique as part of a 5-year USAID-funded program in partnership with Save the Children.
Your support helps provide PCI with the resources to work directly with community members and leaders to design this program – a toolkit of stories and messages that resonate through outlets including community theater, call-in shows, and radio dramas.
These stories can reach an audience of 1.2 million people across 6 districts with valuable messages educating women and girls and community members on topics including child nutrition, infant feeding, and adolescent nutrition – all while working to shift social norms and reduce unintended pregnancy.
PCI is uniquely positioned to craft these messages that result in change. Your commitment to reframing gender norms into positive messages is paving the way for a brighter future for women and girls around the world.
Together, we can continue this journey of positive change. Thank you!
