The MDNtv Youth Journalism Academy trains South Africa's next generation of community reporters and digital storytellers. Your support helps us build a world-class training hub where young journalists can produce people-driven news, fight misinformation, and uplift their communities.
South African youth face high unemployment, limited media training opportunities, and almost no access to professional journalism pathways. Community stories go untold, misinformation spreads, and young people who want to contribute to public dialogue lack the skills, equipment, and mentorship to do so. Without support, the next generation of reporters cannot enter the industry or represent their communities.
The MDNtv Youth Journalism Academy will train young people in digital storytelling, mobile journalism, writing, interviewing, ethics, and media literacy. Trainees will receive hands-on instruction, equipment access, mentorship, and real newsroom experience. They will produce community-focused reports published on MDNtv platforms, giving them both practical skills and a professional portfolio. The Academy becomes a pathway into media careers and empowers youth to tell their own stories.
This project will develop a generation of skilled, confident young journalists who shape South Africa's media future. By providing training, tools, and opportunities, the Academy breaks cycles of unemployment and exclusion from the media industry. Over time, thousands of youth will gain employable skills, strengthen community storytelling, improve information access, and contribute to a more informed and connected society. The Academy becomes a lasting institution for youth empowerment and media
