Committed to bridging the weakest link in Pakistan's education system we require funds to provide faculty/students with quality e-resources and seminal texts for teaching rapidly developing disciplines. The very basic component to providing quality education is an updated and current text book covering the course material in depth as well as whetting a student's appetite for research and discovering new knowledge. Invest in Pakistan's future entrepreneurs!
The problem we are facing and indeed many educational institutions in Pakistan face is access to current and new textbooks. Most institutions simply rely on books they have been using for over a decade. The current attitude is "at least they have books." We are working on providing Pakistan with entrepreneurs/graduates who have an education and skills comparable to graduates of private institutions, both local and abroad. The only limitation is a lack of funds; an issue easily remedied.
This project will not only give our students and faculty access to online journals but will also provide them with the basic set of core texts required for quality pedagogy, be it in English language or Computer Science or Physics. The cost of one book is anywhere from $40-$60. There are 8 courses in one semester; asking students to cover that cost, given their financial backgrounds is unreasonable and a huge burden. We intend on using these books to populate our eventual physical library.
We intend to inculcate the ethos that seminal texts and canons are essential ingredients to conducting research and quality pedagogy. KITE is situated in a de facto education city, located among several other universities, vocational training centers and secondary education institutions. We would also like to open this space to the public. Creating a sort of haven for at risk children to come and read and perhaps mingle with our students and develop an interest in education and pursuing a career
