This quarterly progress report for GK1World Foundation (Gawad Kalinga USA) comes on the heels of wonderful news, as we received a $40,000 grant from the TripAdvisor Charitable Foundation (administered by GlobalGiving) which will go towards home building at the GK Ark of Noah community in Bocaue, Bulacan Province in the Philippines.
We would like to thank all our inidividual and corporate donors for a wonderful quarter. For the three-month period from December 16 to March 15, you helped us raise $5,965 in GlobalGiving donations, which will fully fund a home for one family at GK Ark of Noah, and partially fund another home.
As of today, through the GlobalGiving platform and GlobalGiving partners, we have fully funded 46 homes at the Ark of Noah community. An additional 6 homes were funded through other donors in the Philippines, inspired by the fundraising progress we have made. This means a total of 52 out of 78 families now have, or are about to have, their own permanent homes thanks to your generosity!
The breakdown of funds disbursement are as follows:
We would also like to share that our efforts to lift this community out of poverty goes BEYOND home-building. Separate fundraising initiatives have enabled Gawad Kalinga and its volunteers to implement the following:
We will also be conducting the third annual GK Global Health internship program this summer, and will be sending four UMass medical students on a six-week program to conduct community health research and recommend appropriate interventions, which GK Boston and GK USA will be implementing. In addition, we will be launching the GK Social Development internship for college-age students, which is focused on identifying social development issues at communities such as GK Ark of Noah, and proposing solutions for them at the end of their 3-week internship. These internships help GK USA generate fresh ideas to address community development issues, and then pilot them at select GK communities, with the intent to scale up successful pilot programs across multiple communities.

We look forward to reporting even more progress at our next project update!
