Since our mid-year report in July of this year, the Gawad Kalinga teams in Boston (US) and in Bulacan (Philippines) have been busy raising funds, building homes and empowering volunteerism at the GK Ark of Noah community in Bocaue.

In the past six months, the GK Boston team achieved the following milestones :

  • Raised over $3,800 in offline fundraising activities
  • Raised an additional $3,933 in online donations through GlobalGiving on #GivingTuesday, with a corresponding matching donation of $1,136 for a total of $5,069 in one day.
  • Built a children's library at two Gawad Kalinga villages: GK Towerville and GK Ark of Noah, both in Bulacan province, to provide 200 books for the communities' children. The books were donated through the efforts of Bagong Kulturang Pinoy, a Boston-based nonprofit that collects used books for underserved communities in the Philippines. The books are on their way!

Home-building updated total: 35 out of 78 homes

  • 20 homes from the TripAdvisor Charitable Foundation, handed over in April 2016
  • 10 homes from Gawad Kalinga Boston, handed over in April 2016
  • 1 additional homes from cost-savings in building the first 20 homes from the TripAdvisor Charitable Foundation; being built
  • 3 additional homes funded by offline fundraising and #GivingTuesday GlobalGiving online donations raised by GK Boston; to be built
  • 1 additional home donated by the Sunjin corporation given directly to Gawad Kalinga Philippines; being built

Our fundraising activities in Boston and the ongoing home-building in the Ark of Noah community has raised interest among local volunteers and donors from the public and private sectors. They have welcomed numerous student groups, interns, volunteers and donors in the past six months, and they have all been welcomed warmly and with great love by the community residents.

We thank you for the support you have given in the past year, and we hope you let your friends know of the wonderful transformation that the GK Ark of Noah community is going through. We appreciate your role in that transformation and look forward to sharing all our progress in our next report!

All the best,

The Gawad Kalinga Boston team and the GK Ark of Noah community
