Aklima was forced to drop out of school when she was in 10th standard. For her father who was a daily wage labour, it was difficult to sustain a family of seven members with his minimal earning. So, in a family of 4 sisters, 2 brothers, it was decided that there was no purpose in getting the girl educated. Her father felt that before getting married, she should rather help in earning for the family. But as meritorious as she was, life found a way for her. Through the support of CRY partner, her father was convinced that Aklima should be given the chance to continue her education. Besides, the school authorities also came forward and assured that no fees will be charged for Aklima.
Since then there has been no looking back for Aklima.
She not only passed her 10th standard with 81% marks but is continuing her education despite the hurdles. Aklima is also working with the CRY partner organization as a volunteer, helping other girls in her neighbourhood and also in the nearby slums with their education. Aklima is now in the 2nd year of college performing exceptionally in her class, she truly is an inspiration for many.
