Help Bring 100 Youth Voices to the United Nations!

Spring Update

By Ethan Case | Development Director

Thank you so much for your generosity during our April fundraiser! The past few months have been busy for SustainUS.

In February, youth delegates attended the 49th Commission on Social Development, during which the Commission adopted a Youth Resolution addressing cooperation on youth-related activities and policies among UN organizations. The following month, SustainUS sent its second youth delegation of 13 representatives to the 55th Commission on the Status of Women, where they discussed and lobbied for women's access and participation in education, science and technology, and employment.

SustainUS also organized four panels for the 2011 Powershift youth climate summit held in Washington, DC in March of this year. The panels focused on youth involvement in Rio+20, youth involvement in the international climate negotiations, understanding regulations of greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act, and discussing issues and outlets for campus organizing around women, gender, and development -- for which there were over 150 attendees. Thanks to the Captain Planet Foundation's generous support, we held a raffle for throwback Captain Planet gear too!

As I type 13 SustainUS delegates are advocating in the U.N. headquarters in New York at the 19th Commission on Sustainable Development. To learn more about what they're up to, check out the SustainUS blog at http://sustainus.org/agents-of-change-blog.

Thank you again for supporting the many SustainUS activities that empower and educate youth across the country. We look forward to sharing our summer activities with you soon!
