You Help Open Doors to Save Lives!

By Samantha Steffens | Excutive Director

Winifred (FIV+)

Friends,

Since I last wrote to you, the BCR family has experienced some tough losses. Cody, a leukemia-positive kitty who arrived in March, suddenly passed away. Our dear diva, Jackie, developed some significant health problems and passed away in October. We also lost Enzo, a leukemia-positive kitty who arrived in May of last year, Bowser, Billy Bob, and, most suddenly, Ella, who developed a tumor.

We do our best for every BCR kitty and, when it’s time, we want them all to leave this world surrounded by love and with dignity. Such losses are always hard on the staff. We feel each loss acutely and miss each kitty who enriched our lives so much every day.

Every kitty who lives at BCR and crossed the Rainbow Bridge leaves a legacy behind them. When they leave us, they open the door for another kitty who needs the love and care BCR will give them for their lifetime. Your generosity makes this evolution possible and literally saves lives.

Since August, we’ve welcomed seven new kitty residents who all come with sad pasts and tough lives:
Buddy (FIV+) who was living outside trying to get by on his own when he was rescued.
Cale (FIV and leukemia+) who was in a community cat colony and rescued twice.
Critter (leukemia+) who was wandering in a neighborhood struggling on his own
Flower (blind) a senior kitty who was living in a manhole beside a busy road in Miami, FL
King (leukemia+) who showed a TNR trapper that he had something special and was rescued.
Winifred (FIV+) the youngest-ever FIV kitten at BCR who was 5 weeks old when she arrived after being
found in the middle of a busy road.
Ziggy (blind/neurological issues) who had had three litters of kittens and who died during spay surgery
and was revived but with no sight and having to learn all over again how to walk, eat, drink and use
           the litter box.

Each of these sweet cats came to BCR because someone - or several someones - cared enough to save them from euthanasia, which would certainly have been their fates. We are so grateful that BCR can be their safe forever home, where they can show the world that they and all cats like them deserve to live and be cherished family pets.

You are one of those “several someones” who help give cats who need a home one they’ll have forever. We thank you from the heart for being such an important part of their journey – and ours.

With gratitude for your continuing kindness and wishes for a wonderful holiday season,

Sam & the Cats
