Nine New Cats Make it Home!

By Samantha Steffens | Executive Director

Dear friends –

We’ve been busy at BCR! Since we last reported to you, we’ve welcomed nine new permanent residents:

Boo Boo (FIV+), Casanova (FeLV+), Cody (FeLV+), Gregory (FeLV+), Grizzly (blind), Helen (blind), Marmalade (Senior), Pookie (FIV+), Sunny D (FeLV+).

Casanova and Gregory both came from the same Ohio rescue as our initial 12 cats who came in July of last year. Helen and Marmalade were rescued from a very dire and unhealthy situation in Florida. Cody and Sunny D are a bonded pair from Virginia who had nowhere to go after their owner (and initial rescuer) passed away. Pookie and Boo Boo, though from different places, are here now due to the kindness of people who didn’t want to see them in suffer in harm’s way. Grizzly, our newest arrival, owes his life to a very kind man in Indiana who was determined to help him.

As we’ve done with many of the cats when they get to BCR, we’re taking care of some very immediate and serious health concerns, for Grizzly in particular, who needed both of his eyes removed, and is recovering from a rare fungal infection. Pookie suffers from entropion (where her eyelids turn inward). Both Helen and Marmalade were in bad shape and are being treated for dry FIP (feline infectious peritonitis).

I’m happy to say that all these cats are getting the best care and attention possible and they’re doing better! Our promise to them when they come through our gate is that they will have a safe, healthy and happy permanent home and we work every day to live up to that promise.

We also said a sad goodbye our oldest and longest BCR resident. I want to pay special tribute to sweet Serena, who came to BCR in 2006 as blind a kitten and was nearly 20 years old when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in March. She was a very sweet and shy girl who overcame her early health challenges and grew up to be a loving kitty who demonstrated to everyone that blind cats don’t know they’re blind, they know they’re cats!

We miss Serena very much but are so grateful to our supporters who literally made her life possible. You are the reason Serena and all the cats at BCR will always know love and care and will never be scared or in want again. That is a priceless gift from very generous hearts.

We thank you so much for your support and your actions to help give our cats a second chance at life! I hope you’ll tune into our live 24-hour cameras so you can see your donations in action. Visit https://blindcatrescue.com/watchus.htm

With deep gratitude for your kindness,

Sam & the Cats
