Help stop animal suffering in Chiapas, Mexico

Activity report April to July 2023

We apologize to you, in recent months we have been absent for different reasons, especially health problems for the family of our leader and president of the association. However, we had the following achievements:

On April 29 and 30, in collaboration with the Calle Cero Foundation of Guadalajara, Jalisco, and local rescuers, we carried out the XI Sterilization and Neutering Campaign of 400 dogs and cats in the Las Granjas neighborhood, in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas , where there is a large overpopulation of animals on public roads. Unfortunately, dozens of dogs that came were in poor health conditions, suffering from erliquia, skin diseases, malnutrition and were infested with fleas and ticks. Many, in addition to surgery, were supported with postoperative medications and food, which was delivered to their rescuers. Veterinary medical consultations were also provided. On May 27, we organized another campaign in the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, where 38 surgeries were performed. All of the above contributes to reducing animal overpopulation.

Another way in which we helped was through medical consultations and treatments. During the period, 15 consultations were granted for reasons of being run over, beaten, injured and poisoned. Of these there were three serious cases. Guffy was run over and required x-rays, hospitalization and surgery. Husky who had an intestinal obstruction, underwent emergency surgery after days of suffering, unfortunately he did not recover, although he was given everything necessary. Cafecita was treated for a severe case of parvovirus from which she recovered after seven days of hospitalization and medication. Others were dewormed, vaccinated and given food.

Fortunately, three of those dogs and cats that were supported by our association were adopted by their rescuers, thus having a happy ending. We are protecting and searching for a family for Legs, Nieve, Dori, Nikté, Flakita and Cerci. All of them are covered with food, deworming and vaccinations. The same for Gordo, Sonrisas, Eva and Botones, four dogs that live on the street.

We continue to collaborate with other groups that defend animal rights, to pressure political actors to approve laws that criminalize the mistreatment of these living beings. With that objective, we participated in the National March Against Animal Abuse that was held on June 24 in Mexico City.

¡QUERIDA FAMILIA ANIMALIX!

Nos disculpamos con ustedes, en los últimos meses hemos estado ausentes por diferentes motivos, sobre todo afectaciones a la salud de la familia de nuestra líder y presidenta de la asociación. No obstante, tuvimos los siguientes logros:

El 29 y 30 de abril, en colaboración con la Fundación Calle Cero de Guadalajara, Jalisco, y rescatistas locales, realizamos la XI Campaña de Esterilización y Castración de 400 perros y gatos en la colonia Las Granjas, de la ciudad de Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, donde existe gran sobrepoblación de animales en la vía pública. Lamentablemente, decenas de perros que acudieron estaban en malas condiciones de salud, con padecimientos de erliquia, enfermedades de la piel, desnutrición y se encontraban infestados de pulgas y garrapatas. A muchos, además de la cirugía se les apoyo con medicamentos postoperatarios y alimentación, el cual se entregó a sus rescatista. También se brindaron consultas médicas veterinarias. El 27 de mayo, organizamos otra campaña en la ciudad de San Cristóbal de Las Casas, donde se hicieron 38 cirugías. Todo lo anterior contribuye a disminuir la sobrepoblación de animales.

Otra forma en la que ayudamos fue a través de las consultas y tratamientos médicos, en el periodo se otorgaron 15 consultas por causas de atropellamiento, golpes, lesiones y envenenamiento. De estos hubo tres casos graves. Guffy fue atropellada y necesitó de radiografías, internamiento e intervención quirúrgica. Husky que presentó una obstrucción intestinal, se le intervino de emergencia después de días de padecer, lamentablemente no se recuperó, aunque se le brindó todo lo necesario. Cafecita fue atendida por un cuadro severo de parvovirus del cual se recuperó después de siete días internamiento y medicamentos. Otros más se les desparasito, vacunó y se les regaló alimento.

Afortunadamente, tres de esos perros y gatos que fueron apoyados por nuestra asociación, fueron adoptados por sus rescatistas, teniendo así un final feliz. Tenemos en resguardo y en búsqueda de una familia para Legs, Nieve, Dori, Nikté, Flakita y Cerci. A todas se les cubre alimentación, desparasitación y vacunas. Lo mismo para Gordo, Sonrisas, Eva y Botones, cuatro perros que viven en la calle.

Seguimos colaborando con otros grupos que defienden los derechos de los animales, para presionar a los actores políticos a que aprueben leyes que penalicen el maltrato hacia estos seres vivos. Con ese objetivo, participamos en la Marcha Nacional Contra el Maltrato Animal que se celebró el 24 de junio en la Ciudad de México.
