Our team at INMED USA has been working at warped speed over the past several months to expand our programs and increase our resources for children, youth and families in need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our Opportunity Center in Sterling, VA has become a lifeline for families who need food, diapers and baby supplies, daily hygiene and cleaning items, clothing, home goods, workforce skills development and mental health and wellness services.
INMED USA was recently a finalist for the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit of the Year Award for our COVID relief and support efforts and addressing critical needs in the community.
One need our team is addressing aggressively is teen mental health and well-being support. The COVID-19 pandemic and the isolation it has caused have been particularly challenging for adolescents. Throughout 2020 and beyond, INMED USA has focused on providing COVID-safe in-person and virtual activities to help teens navigate this difficult time, develop strong support networks and build resilience for life. Below are a few of our new offerings.
The Hangout: This popular program gives teens a safe space. It provides an encouraging environment with options of participating in art, music, and other enrichment activities with a Youth Mentor. Teens are also encouraged to volunteer in other INMED programs, such as community response or children’s education (after school, STEM).
Website Builder Class: In partnership with volunteers from Amazon Web Services, teens learn how to build a website for personal, professional or entrepreneurial purposes. Teens in the program get to leave with webhosting as well as a refurbished laptop to continue their web development skills and maintaining their websites.
Art Expression: Teens express feelings in a variety of mediums and build confidence and motivation with art exhibits and displays. Several times per month we host a facilitated class for small groups. Teen artists also participate in exhibitions of their work, which is for sale to the public (all proceeds go directly to the teens).
Music Therapy: Led by a professional music therapist, this group is designed to help teens express feelings, release anxiety and cope with life’s challenges.
