Summary

In Greece, over 100,000 refugees and asylum seekers urgently need psychosocial support and emergency services. Gaps in service provision are growing, whilst camps are becoming increasingly isolated due to the building of walls. Lighthouse Relief provides psychosocial support and emergency services to refugees that bolster wellbeing and resilience. This approach provides tools with which people can build their futures, beyond the barriers of their current situation.

Challenge

In 2021, refugees and asylum seekers in Greece face significant barriers in accessing essential services and support. Gaps in service provision continue to grow, with people facing a lack of shelter, food, medical, and legal aid. As walls are built around camps, refugees are becoming further isolated, with few avenues to further their education, or integrate into new homes. In both Ritsona Camp and Athens, these barriers are having an alarming impact on wellbeing, resilience, and human rights.

Solution

In Athens, we are expanding our Streetwork Programme to ensure those facing homelessness can access a wider range of services. In Ritsona, our priority is to support the camp community by strengthening our psychosocial (PSS) activities, providing trainings, workshops, counselling, and safe spaces, through which people can build their futures. We are seeking to address growing needs by exploring expanding our PSS to other locations. We need your support to help people transcend these barriers!

Long-Term Impact

In Greece, refugees and asylum seekers face barriers that impact their short-term and long-term outcomes. At LHR, we provide support through emergency response outreach, PSS activities, and casework management, to ensure that displaced people can access holistic and sustainable support. We partner with refugees and asylum seekers to cultivate the tools and skills that allow them to foster agency, with the objective of transcending barriers to access opportunities and fulfill their goals.
