During the current reporting period, 47 trafficked individuals who had been arrested or intercepted by authorities in Zambia received immediate humanitarian and protection support through this project. These individuals—many of whom were detained due to immigration or trafficking-related circumstances—were assisted with temporary safe shelter, food, basic medical attention, and referral to psychosocial and legal support services. Our intervention ensured that survivors were treated first as people in need of protection, not punishment.
One survivor, John (name changed), was detained after being trafficked across borders for forced labor. With support from our partners, he was transferred from detention into a safe environment where he received counseling and assistance to begin reintegration with family members. He has since expressed renewed hope and a desire to rebuild his life through lawful employment and skills development. His story reflects the importance of early protection and humane treatment for trafficked persons.
Since the last update, our team has worked closely with local authorities, social welfare officers, and referral partners to ensure trafficked individuals are identified correctly and connected to protection services. Case documentation, follow-ups, and referrals remain ongoing to prevent re-trafficking and support longer-term recovery. These efforts strengthen coordination between justice systems and humanitarian actors while prioritizing survivor dignity and safety.
We are sincerely grateful to our donors for making this work possible. Your continued support enables trafficked individuals to move from detention and uncertainty toward safety, recovery, and reintegration. Every contribution helps ensure that vulnerable people receive protection when they need it most.
