Zambia is a landlocked and being a peaceful country has been a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to forced labor and sex trafficking, both within the country and from neighboring countries. The International Labour Organization confirms that since 2021, 25 million humans have been trafficked and 4.9 million have been sexually abused, died of malnutrition, starvation and suffocation in trucks they are transported in.
Its is difficult to determine the exact number of humans trafficked in Zambia because trafficking is often a hidden and illegal activity. However, there has been several arrest of immigrants, destined to other countries and in that process many have died out of suffocation while hidden in trucks, hunger, malnutrition, lack of healthcare and some have been jailed for not meeting the heavy fees imposed on them. Others have been terribly abused sexually due to lack of freedom and language.
Addressing the root causes of trafficking, such as poverty, lack of education, and social inequality can help prevent people from being vulnerable to trafficking. According to the UN, every immigrant deserves basic rights. This project would provide the arrested immigrants with immediate life needs in food, communication, healthcare, clothes, and would expose every abuse they are being exposed to whenever, wherever they are imprisoned denying them freedom, security and protection in Zambia.
This project will implement solutions to address the hunger, sexual exploitation, starvation, healthcare and communication issues faced by the trafficked individuals going through due process would significantly reduce the number of people who become victims of trafficking as well as improving the wellbeing and quality of life for those who have already been trafficked. It would increase human dignity and whistle blowing, further violation against international human rights and injustice.
