Help Animals After the Venezuela Earthquakes

When devastating back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela earlier this year, entire communities were reduced to rubble. In the horrifying aftermath, you chose to care. By kindly donating to our emergency appeal, you provided a lifeline when it was needed most—and for this, we couldn’t be more grateful.

While we physically cannot be everywhere, through our ROLDA Heroes programme, we stood directly behind trusted local rescuers on the ground. Your generosity provided emergency financial support to local experts, empowering them to deliver vital food, medical supplies, and shelter using their deep community knowledge.

While the earth has stopped shaking, the crisis for animals is far from over.

We know from past crises that the reality months later remains severe. Many pets and strays are likely still displaced or separated from the families who loved them. Local veterinary facilities and shelters will have faced immense strain—and many may well have suffered damage or destruction, just as human infrastructure did.

Furthermore, with homes and livelihoods lost, families who once cared for their pets may no longer have the means to do so. In the wake of such widespread devastation, local rescue resources are stretched to their limits, and facilities are likely dealing with a rising influx of abandoned animals needing urgent help.

Our local ROLDA Heroes are determined to keep working through the aftermath—treating higher numbers of abandoned animals, restocking essential supplies, and helping rebuild what was lost. But they cannot do it alone.
