Americares Ukraine Response Project Report

As the war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, dwindling international support — amid competing global crises and increasing restrictions on humanitarian aid — threatens health services. , Americares and other organizations continue to advocate for sustained financial and in-kind support to ensure uninterrupted care for vulnerable populations.

Americares is strengthening its commitment to medicine security — ensuring equitable, reliable access to high-quality medicines and supplies for clinics, health workers, and patients. Hospitals and clinics across Ukraine face severe shortages, particularly of specialized medicines for cancer patients, newborns, and those with complex medical conditions.

 Response Activities

Three years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Americares remains committed to supporting the health and well-being of those affected by the war. Our work focuses on providing medicine, medical and relief supplies, mental health support and capacity-building initiatives for local organizations in Ukraine. To date, Americares has provided aid valued at more than $147 million to 83 local partners, ensuring that critical health services continue amidst ongoing conflict.

  • 544 tons of medicine and relief supplies valued at $115 million shipped to 37 partners in Ukraine.
  • Americares Medical Outreach program supported 32 trips by volunteer medical teams to Ukraine and neighboring countries, providing over $4.7 million worth of donated medicines and medical products.
  • Aid has included incubators for neonatal treatment, hospital-grade generators, pediatric oncology medicines, and anti-dementia medications
  • 41 grants awarded to 24 local partners providing mental health services.
  • Capacity-building training for frontline workers on psychological first aid and burnout prevention.
  • Facilitated online peer support groups for partner staff, delivered in-person MHPSS trainings, and provided webinars and newsletters to strengthen mental health support and resilience among humanitarian workers.
  • 20 partners supported in capacity-building initiatives, ensuring that relief efforts are not only immediate but also resilient, equipping these organizations with the tools and resources necessary to drive long-term recovery and health system strengthening.

As we look ahead to the coming months, Americares will continue to support those impacted by the war. We deeply appreciate your generous support of this lifesaving work and your commitment to provide medicines and critical care to those who need it most.
