GLOBALGIVING REPORT – JUNE 2023
HELP ALLEVIATE MISERY FOR ANIMALS IN CAPE TOWN
Greetings Dear Friends and Supporters on the GlobalGiving Platform
IT’S A HARSH, COLD WINTER FOR VULNERABLE, HOMELESS, AND ABANDONED COMMUNITY ANIMALS IN VRYGROND
Winter has arrived and with it, freezing temperatures and days of continual rain, which have exacerbated the terrible conditions under which vulnerable animals live, in the low-income communities that TEARS services. So far this winter, the weather has been harsh, and according to meteorologists, it is going to be a long, cold winter with plenty of rain still to come.
The extreme poverty of residents in the communities of Vrygrond and surrounding areas, and their inability to adequately care for their animals as well as provide food, has a huge impact on our organisation, as we strive to help them and their animals, by providing services and food. As a Pro-Life Animal Rescue Organisation, TEARS Animal Rescue believes in giving all companion animals a second chance, by providing vital veterinary care and treatment to sick or injured animals who, without our help would most likely die, and we are at the front lines in providing services.
The living situations of these deprived people are awful, and in winter many exist in unimaginable conditions. The most humane way we can help them is to ensure that their pets are sterilised, vaccinated, dewormed, parasite free, and kept as healthy as possible, to help prevent diseases such as parvo-virus and distemper in dogs and puppies, and respiratory diseases in cats and kittens, which cause untold misery and suffering. A healthy pet also minimises the spread of zoonotic diseases from pets to humans.
2023 represents TEARS’ 24th year supporting the underdog (and cat), and while the needs of pets and pet owners in under-resourced communities continue to increase under the burden of rising energy and food costs, TEARS will focus on increasing its capacity through raising funds, to enable us to provide an enhanced service to pets and their owners.
We are therefore so grateful to you, our GlobalGiving supporters, for helping us, through your donations, to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable animals by providing vital services.
With sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks for caring.
Warm regards
