Since 1979, Healing the Children has provided hope and healing for children around the world. We are perhaps the oldest and largest registered charitable organization focused single-mindedly on helping poor children worldwide access the urgently needed medical care they need and deserve. Healing the Children partners with American and International healthcare providers to maximize our impact. Our 40 year history is a testimony to our commitment to helping children to have healthy lives.
In Liberia, Ethiopia, and Togo/Burkina Faso, treatment for many major surgeries is unavailable. Many children suffer from major heart defects and traumatic injury. Children needing these lifesaving surgeries come from developing countries where families face daily struggles to survive in a society where many people make less than $1 a day let alone attempt to fund a surgery. Not only are financial resources limited but often so are qualified medical personnel, medical supplies and/or equipment.
Healing the Children brings children to the U.S to receive the lifesaving medical care they need. All our services are free to the child and their family. So many children lack the mobility, funds, and/or access to medical care to obtain the surgery they need in their home country. Worldwide more than 60% of children living in poverty face this plight. Healing the Children is bridging this disparity by providing the urgent, often life-saving, surgical care the child needs and deserves.
Healing the Children's International Inbound Program brings a child to the US for donated medical care. The child stays with a host family. This is our founding program. through this program the children comes to the US, receives donated medical care, and the children returns to their family and village where they can live a productive, healthier life. Since 1979, we have assisted 7,478 children through this program, many who are now adults with families, careers, and children of their own.
