Agwata Primary School is a remarkable school in one of Uganda's poorest and most remote districts. Despite receiving virtually no government funding, 95%+ of its students who take the national Primary 7 exams score in the top third nationwide. Because of our students' exceptional performance, the district designated it as the model primary school for our district of 95 primary schools. To continue to provide high quality education, funds are needed to cover extra lessons, girls training & more.
Agwata Primary School serves 820 students in remote, impoverished Lamwo District in northern Uganda, near the South Sudan border. Of the district's 95 primary schools, fewer than 10% of children who start Primary 1 complete Primary 7. Agwata is a community school with no government funding. Its exceptional results-95%+ of students taking national Primary 7 exams score in the top third-depend on extra lessons, girls' programs, security, & other items that we need funding to continue to provide.
This project will fund key school equipment & technology items, provide holiday & extra lessons to students, provide additional benefits & salary increments to teachers and provide additional security & accommodation items for teachers and school for items such as security fencing, latrine improvements, upgrades to teacher huts, & required items for the 6th grade boarding areas. This will help retain and motivate teachers, and students alike, and enable our school to be excellent & help others.
Agwata can continue providing an excellent education to 820 students, helping them advance to secondary school, vocational training or university and build better futures for themselves, their families and communities. As a model school, Agwata can also raise educational standards across Lamwo District by sharing what works with other schools, while students from remote villages can gain access to quality education by schooling at Agwata, and boarding as needed.
