75 adolescent girls in Rubona Sector, Rwamagana District completed Women for Women Rwanda's ten-month empowerment programme.. The cohort included young mothers and pregnant girls, a reminder of how early these girls face the pressures of poverty, limited education, and gender-based violence.
The programme combined life skills, reproductive health and rights education, financial literacy, and vocational training, with sessions led by healthcare workers, counsellors, police officers, and parents. Girls received monthly stipends through mobile money, building financial inclusion and accountability, and chose a vocational track suited to local demand, including hairdressing and knitting, giving them practical, income-generating skills.
By graduation, many girls had already begun saving and investing in small assets, while others expressed a renewed desire to return to school, with local leaders pledging continued support.
These results show what targeted, holistic support can do at a critical stage of a girl's life. With the right tools, vulnerable adolescent girls are building the confidence and skills to break cycles of early pregnancy and educational exclusion, and to imagine futures as entrepreneurs, students, and leaders.
