Summary

Our goal is to build a house of 100 m for planting mushrooms at Educate Labor Social Center No 2, located at Yenbai commune, Bavi dist., Hanoi and is home to 75 abandoned orphans with HIV infections. Mushrooms - nutritious food can be served as part of the children's daily menu. Extra mushrooms can be sold to military camps and local markets and help to generate additional income. Your donation towards this project will help provide these children with a better chance of fighting their illness.

Challenge

These children require a specially formulated regime of care and support to maintain their health. According to Mr. Vu - Vice manager of the Center's Caring and Feeding Department, funds raised for each child should be around US$ 65/month to only cover the bare essentials for each child as food, learning tools and vitamins. The government subsidies for the children are US$ 43/month, therefore not enough and the Center has always looked for outside sponsorship from local and foreign organizations

Solution

The project will build a house for growing closed indoor mushrooms at Center No 2. Mushroom dustlike spores and technical planting tools and training will also be provided. The Center staff and older children will then be able to organize their time and take turns working on the project. Mushrooms as a nutritious food can be served as part of the children's daily menu. Extra mushrooms can be sold to military camps and local markets and help to generate additional income.

Long-Term Impact

The project represents a sustainable plan for Center No 2 and its staff as they will be managing and operating it themselves. The quality of produce will be totally controlled and used to keep the children's delicate immune systems healthy. As mushrooms - superior fresh food source can provide rich nutritious alternatives, they are therefore ideal for sick children. Extra mushrooms can be sold and generate additional income for paying Center No 2's bills and buying next season mushrooms packs
