Several times each year, we order fair trade craft jewelry and accessories from our JInja women's group. These items are handcrafted by the women according to our order and after receipt in the U.S., we pay the women a better than fair trade price for the items we purchase.
These sales to Outreach Uganda, help the women earn additional income over and above what they earn from doing their small scale Uganda businesses all year long. The extra income helps them with their normal monthly expenses for food, rent and medicines. In addition, it gives them extra funds to expand their Uganda businesses, start a new business, or save money to put towards building a home!
The coronavirus took a toll on their small businesses, and also their income from fair trade craft sales. Thankfully, the last two years have seen an increase in these sales again. We hope it continues as we continue to look for new markets to sell the fair trade crafts in the U.S.
These extra funds earned by the women, plus donations from this project on GlobalGiving will soon allow us to begin the building phase of the home building program!
Thank you so much for your donations that are making this a reality.
Sincerely,
Carol Davis
