We Auntie Sri a few months ago when she had just taken in a stepson’s children, because he and his wife were incarcerated for drug charges. Despite everything, her worn and tired heart found room to care for others. After joining our "Keeping Families Together" program, she is flourishing!
She learned about child protection, health, and hygiene, positive parenting, how to manage her financial resources, and successfully start a micro-business - flower garlands. Her soul is as beautiful as the jasmine flower garlands she makes to sells as part of her income generation assistance project with Step Ahead. Not only her, but she brings along the children in her care to all the trainings and events. They are able to learn with her as well.
Covid-19 had made life, once again, very difficult. She could not sell her flowers and she was living on handouts from various charities. The relief of food staples and household items she received was helpful though, and she new she would be able to feed her family for about a month. Step Ahead also assisted families like hers with rent and utility bills and provided some educational activities for the children while they stay home from school. Furthermore, we gave specific training and information on the COVID situation so that families can be well supported.
Last month, we learned that someone broke into their small one-room shack and stole all their food! Their door upstairs was not secure. Step Ahead and our partner church sprung into action and installed a brand new solid wood door with a good lock for Aunt Sri.
Practical help, encouragement, and support have helped another family step ahead. Thank you for making it happen to Keep Families Together.
