Forty five Children begin the Kindergarten!

Dear Supporter,

The new academic year in Xhevdet Doda School, Bulqize began on Monday 14th September. A grand opening ceremony welcomed the children and parents and especially the five year old children who were the first to be in the newly opened kindergarten. The Mayor, Director of the Education Office, School Director and the Director of Partnerë për Fëmijët made presentations before children sang songs and recited poetry. Following the presentations the children streamed into the building filling it with chatter, laughter and amazement at how different everything was from the old school.

On this first day, the youngest children sat at empty desks a little bemused and anxious as to what they would do. All forty five children in this class have never before attended a kindergarten or group so being away from their mothers was a new experience for them all. The educator, Silvia welcomed them.

The kindergarten classroom has been further equipped with shelves and coat racks for the children’s coats, shoes and backpacks. A few donated toys adorn some of the shelves. With the money donated to Partnerë për Fëmijët, jigsaws, paints, pencils and reading books have been purchased. The NGO, Femijet Jane e Ardhmja (Children Are the Future) donated some notebooks, pens, jigsaws and dressing up costumes for the children.

So with your support we have started to equip the kindergarten, but with such a large number of young children we continue to need additional resources. The urgent need is for the carpet and soft bean bags so that every child has a seat or can sit on a warm carpet for reading and circle time. The educator will be trained in October on child focused learning methodology that focuses on child rights, how young children learn and how to develop their skills rather than just repeat and learn by rote without understanding the concepts.

Can you help us to buy the much needed carpet and support the educator in her learning on how to keep children safe, to be curious, to explore and to learn in a friendly and encouraging environment?
