This project enables 50 women and young people in rural Zimbabwe to establish income-generating agroforestry farms that integrate solar-powered irrigation systems, and climate - adapted agriculture. Participants receive training, starter materials, and ongoing mentorship to build sustainable green businesses that improve livelihoods, restore land, and reduce dependence on firewood and fossil fuels.
Women and rural youth in Zimbabwe face multiple, interlinked challenges that limit their livelihoods and resilience. They have restricted access to land, capital, and green technologies, and are increasingly affected by rising fuel costs and energy poverty. Dependence on firewood and charcoal contributes to deforestation, soil degradation, and declining ecosystem services, while limited opportunities exist for innovation in integrated energy, agroforestry, and clean technology.
This project empowers women and youth to build integrated agroforestry farms powered by solar energy. Participants will receive training, mentorship on agroforestry, asset based renewable energy, and income generating farm-based enterprises. By providing agroforestry starter inputs such as fruit and indigenous tree seedlings, crops and solar-powered irrigation. It will enable biodiversity regeneration and reduce energy poverty.
Over five years, 50 women and youth will run profitable agroforestry farms, sharing knowledge with neighbors, improving food security for 250+ households, restoring 10,000+ trees and degraded soils, reducing reliance on firewood through solar, sequestering carbon, and fostering a replicable model of sustainable, climate adapted livelihoods and community-led innovation.
