As the 26/27 school year is in full swing, we at Piedmont Wildlife Center are staying busy as we continue to visit schools across the Triangle. Through our interactive animal programs, Piedmont Wildlife Center visits schools and helps educate our students on natural history and how to be a good neighbor with wildlife. Title 1 schools are especially important to us because we can offer educational experiences they would not otherwise have access to.
The 26/27 school year is shaping up to be another full year as we continue to fill the calendar with animal programs. So far, we are booked to visit 74 Title 1 classrooms across 33 schools. (And we’re still booking!) During the 25/26 school year, we visited 78 classrooms across 40 schools. Therefore, we’re well on track for another school year full of learning with ambassador animals!
We’ve noticed that in the 26/27 school year, teachers have been opting for smaller class sizes and more sessions instead of larger groups. This change is great because the smaller size allows for more individual interaction with the animal ambassadors and more time for questions from the students!
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our partners and donors! Each animal program costs $325 for up to 30 students. However, through your generosity, we are able to bring these programs to Title 1 classrooms at no cost to the teachers. These free programs allow for around three thousand students a year to come face-to-face with native wildlife they may not otherwise experience. Meeting native wildlife ambassadors is a valuable educational experience that can create awareness for nature in our own backyards.
We thank you for your continued support as we work to bring wildlife into the classrooms of Title 1 schools across the Triangle. 26/27 is on track to be our biggest and best school year yet!
