For many children with cancer in Poland, specialized treatment requires repeated journeys to Warsaw. While medical care is covered, transportation is not, making fuel and taxi costs a major burden for families. Herosi Foundation will support around 400 children treated annually at the Mother and Child Institute by covering travel costs and arranging volunteer drivers. Our goal: no child should miss life-saving treatment because they cannot afford the journey.
Many children with cancer in Poland must travel hundreds of kilometers to receive specialized treatment at the Institute of Mother and Child in Warsaw. Families often make 10-12 hospital trips each year for chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and follow-up care. While treatment is publicly funded, transportation is not. Fuel, tolls, parking and taxi costs can become a serious burden, especially when a parent stops working to care for their child.
The project will ensure that transportation is never a barrier to a child's cancer treatment. Herosi Foundation will cover fuel costs for families travelling long distances, organize volunteer drivers when families cannot make the journey themselves, and fund necessary taxi rides between hospitals, accommodation and radiotherapy centers in Warsaw. This support will help children attend chemotherapy, surgery, diagnostics and follow-up appointments safely and on time.
The project will provide long-term, reliable access to specialized cancer treatment for children regardless of where they live or their family's financial situation. By reducing transportation barriers, Herosi Foundation will help prevent delayed or missed chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and follow-up care. Supporting up to 400 patients annually will also reduce financial pressure on families, allowing parents to focus on their child's treatment and recovery.
