Supporting Advanced Learners

By Eric Gaka | Fundraising & Communications Manager

Children in our Acceleration Learning Programme are provided with an enriched and advanced educational experience to match their developmental capabilities. This approach recognizes that young children often display varying levels of readiness and can benefit from tailored instruction that challenges their intellectual curiosity and skills. By incorporating activities that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, acceleration learning aims to foster a love for learning and ensure that children are not only meeting but exceeding age-appropriate milestones.

It has become vital for Pre-primary 2 (PP2) children, at the Kianda Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Centre, to receive accelerated learning due to their age.

Having started school at 9 years old instead of the recommended age of 3 or 4 years, Michelle and her peers have joined the accelerated learning programme. At her age, her cognitive and social growth, and academic skills are more advanced than those of her classmates. Her teacher has therefore introduced concepts slightly above her current level by incorporating a blend of play-based learning, interactive activities, and structured lessons that challenge her developing mind.

By taking Michelle and her peers through this programme, we ensure that they remain motivated and enthusiastic about their education. Such a programme is designed to be flexible, recognizing the individual needs and abilities of each child, ensuring that while they are pushed to excel, they are also supported in a nurturing environment. This balanced approach helps in fostering a positive attitude towards education, setting the stage for future academic success and holistic personal development.
