Refugee children we assist are victims of armed conflicts and other kind of violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. When they survive their families flee to neighboring countries like Burundi and are unable to meet their basic needs, including education. The AMV since 2006 has set up an Emergency Education structure in Bujumbura, which benefit more than 200 children each year. The AMV mission is to provide quality Education to refugee kids in order to overcome future challenges.
The Democratic Republic of Congo is torn by conflicts and violence cycles since 1990s. Millions of people are internally displaced and thousands fled the country; they are refugees. Children are survivors and most affected by conflicts and violence in their home country, the DR. Congo. Our organization members, volunteers and friends have decided to provide education to refugee children for a better future and social integration. This year 301 refugee children are attending school, La Vision.
The project provides free education to most poor refugee children who cannot afford the cost of private schooling or integrate formal national Burundian education. Beside the formal education, we provide psychological framework to most traumatized children involving families and children's host families for orphans or those separated with families. Our school is recognized by the Congolese national education authority, the test is done at DR Congo embassy in Burundi.
The project will help 301 refugee children whom elementary and high school education is provided by La Vision school. Our conviction is that education is the unique tool that will empower these children to face their future challenges. Our long term action plan is: find partner and volunteers who may spend their time and knowledge to provide education to refugee youth. Help refugee children overcome the stigma based on their social status through education is our organization's mission.
