The Supermom's Wish: Holding Up a Family of Five

In the cramped little apartment, the living room is where Apple, her younger brother and sister, and mother sleep. Behind a partition is the grandmother's bed. Despite being a tight space for a family of five, it still feels warm and cozy.

The mother, having experienced setbacks and struggles in her relationships, decided to take on the responsibility of caring for her three young children. Though Apple is young, she is always eager to help look after her siblings. She reminds her brother to behave, calms her newborn sister, and even brings diapers to her mother for changing. With her small frame, she does her best to ease her mother’s burdens and often says, “Mom, you’ve worked hard, let me help you.”

At present, since her mother is unable to work while caring for the newborn, the family relies on the grandmother’s meager income from working as a temporary cleaner. Although elderly, the grandmother does her best to help with daily needs and the care of the children. She is deeply moved and saddened by her daughter’s past troubled relationships.

The mother is always full of hope, saying, "Once my little daughter grows a bit more, I'll carry her to work, earn a little more, and provide a better environment for the kids. No matter how hard it is, it will be worth it to watch them grow."

The children are the source of the mother’s courage and strength. Though their living space is limited, they are happy to be together. The mother is always thinking about her children's dreams, hoping they will one day have new backpacks or their own beds to sleep in. They believe that once their mother returns to work and earns a stable income, these dreams will slowly come true.

This family’s story is full of challenges, yet their love for one another and their mutual support are deeply touching. The mother bravely holds the family together, creating a home filled with love and warmth, raising her children without regret, and eagerly looks forward to the day when the clouds clear and the rainbow appears.

Child Welfare League Foundation (CWLF) has been providing services for disadvantaged families for many years ( At least 600 families per year ). From our experiences, we discovered that unstable financial situation would directly affect children's education, health care and standard of living. Due to stress or lack of parenting skills, some parents may even put their children at risk of neglect or abuse. With #Vulnerable Family Strengthening Services and #Adversity Turnaround Services, we hope to assist these disadvantaged families in early stages. We provide children with various resources including food, clothes, living, education, health, etc. Moreover, through our professional accompaniment, we elevate caregivers' parenting skills and their capacities to deal with crisis so that their living situation can be flipped into a safe, stable and loving environment for children to thrive.
