Each year, CWLF provides services for more than 1,700 families, supporting nearly 3,000 children to grow up safely. Most of these families have been hit by a major tragedy or dragged down by financial burdens caused by illnesses. The "Poverty Relief Program for Disadvantaged Children" helps families in adversity across Taiwan by providing emergency relief, long-term financial assistance, as well as services such as home visits, counseling, and family empowerment projects.
In Taiwan, many disadvantaged families live on the fringes of society and have long been trapped in worry and instability. They struggle to make ends meet, face the pressure of supporting the dependents, and have no choice but to take on debt. In 2022, CWLF served 876 disadvantaged families with minor children. On average, the total monthly income for each family was less than NTD$30,000 (approximately USD$920), far less than the family's monthly living expenses.
CWLF provides emergency relief, meal subsidies, education subsidies, childcare subsidies and daily necessities. CWLF's social workers also conduct home visits, arrange counseling according to families' needs, and provide family empowerment services. For children with illnesses or developmental delays, CWLF assists in their medical treatment, provides nutritional supplements, and offers financial support for medical expenses.
For caregivers lacking parenting skills and support, CWLF provides parenting training and childcare knowledge to enhance caregiving abilities and parenting communication skills. For unemployed caregivers, CWLF matches them with job opportunities and connects them with employment-related resources so that they can have stable family income and overcome poverty.
