Asthma and other breathing illnesses affect many elderly people in Nigeria. Older adults with low income often cannot pay for inhalers, hospital visits, or breathing treatment. When attacks occur they struggle to breathe and may face life threatening complications. This project will provide free breathing treatment and asthma care for 300 elderly patients through community clinics while offering guidance on early symptoms and when to seek medical help.
Asthma and chronic breathing illness affect millions of older adults worldwide. In Nigeria many elderly people live on very limited income and cannot afford inhalers or hospital treatment. When breathing attacks occur they may struggle for air without access to quick medical help. Delayed treatment increases the risk of severe complications and hospital admission.
This project will provide free breathing treatment using nebulizers for elderly patients who cannot afford care. Health workers will identify patients through community clinics and provide treatment during respiratory attacks. The program will supply medication used for breathing treatment. A dedicated phone number will allow families to call anytime an elderly patient struggles to breathe so help can be arranged quickly.
Providing free breathing treatment will reduce severe asthma attacks among elderly patients in low income communities. Early treatment can lower the risk of emergency hospital visits and serious complications linked to breathing illness. Families will also learn to recognize warning signs earlier and seek help quickly, helping more elderly patients live safer and healthier lives.
