Report February 2022

The forests protected by the families benefited from the donation project have been conserved for several generations, without State support. ASIREA has worked to support this community conservation initiative through various mechanisms for almost two decades, being one of the last support mechanisms but not the only one; the GlobalGiving donation campaign.

The importance of these forests lies in factors not only related to their size (more than 2,000 hectares); but also in the ecological value that they have, as biodiversity maintenance sites, biological corridors between forested areas and Protected Wilderness Areas thus declared by the State, in addition to being located along the middle and lower basins of large rivers that importance for the Atlantic Zone of Costa Rica, in areas declared as wetlands.

Due to its location and access only by rainwater, the surveillance and control of illegal logging or hunting is an activity that requires economic resources for mobilization and clean access to the limits of each property, for this the resources obtained in the campaign donations are of great importance to cover the cost of surveillance and maintenance activities, which motivates our organization to maintain this campaign over time.
