Thanks to all our donors; five families who own forests felt the difference at Christmas. This year we had a meeting to evaluate our progress, inform them about last years efforts, how we do fundraising, and make plans for this year. Some saw the global giving page and the video for the first time- because they do not have access to internet.
They also shared stories about what they did with the money. Each family recieved approximately $158 dollars, which is really very little compared to the work that goes into protecting 15 hectareas or hundreds of hectareas of forest. Even so...
One family group that protects over 600 hectareas where there are tapirs, and jilgueros (a very wonderful songbird that lives at their altitud), were able to buy the food they needed while they did the work necesary to fence and protect the land. Another family- whose forest actually hosts jaguars- had a family reunion and made tamales to celebrate all the years work...another that protects a rare wild turkey, used the money to keep the community bus running.
In this way...the forest not only protected water...and wonderful animals.... and carbon fixing services...and soil erosion prevention...and beauty...but it also protected the families....with your help.
This year we will reach our again, hoping that all our donors can spread the word among others about what you are doing to support these forests and their stewards. Please take a moment today to thank yourself deeply. You are realloy part of something valuable, human and wild, at the same time.
