Christel House South Africa recently marked 25 years of transforming lives with a celebration in Cape Town that brought together board members, alumni, students, staff, and friends of Christel House. With more than 130 guests in attendance – including newly appointed Western Cape Minister of Education, Jaco Londt – graduates shared their stories, students performed, and supporters reflected on CH South Africa’s vision and impact.
At the heart of the evening was a quote from the late Christel DeHaan: “Every child deserves a seat at the table of life.” For 25 years, a team of dedicated educators, donors, and friends has both built that table and added new seats so more young people in South Africa can access a quality education and the opportunity to realize their full potential. In addition to providing a chance to reflect on past achievements, the celebration also gave those in attendance a moment to look ahead to the next 25 years as CHSA continues to welcome more students to its Cape Town campus, while also exploring the opportunity for a second campus to extend the reach of the Christel House model to even more children.
Recognized in 2024 as one of the Top Ten Schools in overcoming adversity in the “World’s Best School Prizes,” Christel House South Africa opened in 2002 in Cape Town. The school provides a comprehensive educational journey, fostering a conducive environment for academic and personal growth, while emphasizing agency and strong character values. The school integrates cutting-edge technology into every facet of learning and is proud to be a Microsoft Showcase school.
Christel House South Africa has a proven track record of creating upward economic mobility and significantly impacting the lives of students and the broader community. Students achieve remarkably high pass rates compared to both provincial and national averages, with a 99% National Senior Certificate pass rate average since inception. 97% of alumni are employed and/or studying. In addition to the school, Christel House South Africa established the Youth Bridge program, which provides extended support to youth from under-resourced communities. Youth Bridge provides pathways to employment and helps its participants to achieve post-secondary success.
