This project supports 25 children with autism at the House of Play center in Barlad, Romania. Without help, many cannot communicate basic needs or cope with daily sensory overload. Through consistent therapy, they begin to speak, focus, and connect. The center provides individual therapy, a sensory room, a sensory garden, and group play materials, while parents receive counseling and training to continue progress at home.
In Barlad and Vaslui county, families of autistic children face a severe crisis. An estimated 40,000 children in Romania have ASD, and UNICEF reports over 40% of newly diagnosed cases are in small towns/rural areas entirely cut off from therapy. Because local state facilities lack staff and sensory resources, families are left on their own. Without our House of Play center, the 25-30 children we serve would have no way to manage sensory overload or learn to communicate.
At the House of Play, therapy becomes a lifeline. Children receive 2-5 weekly sessions using structured individual therapy, a sensory room for regulation, a sensory garden for calm, and group play activities. Parents are not left behind-they receive counseling and training to reinforce progress at home. Donations keep these essential spaces running and ensure children receive the consistent care they urgently need.
Over the long term, this project will transform the futures of 25 children and their families, permanently breaking the cycle of isolation in Barlad. Children who learn to communicate and regulate their emotions can successfully enter school, build lifelong relationships, and gain personal independence.
