Follow-up +Caring Support=Long-Term Success 4 Haiti

By Marie-Rose Romain Murphy | Servant Leader

We are very proud of Leve Kanpe's impact.  It has changed the lives of hundreds of families most in need who didn't have a second chance.  They can now move forward.  We have you, our donors and supporters to thank for it.  We are also very thankful for our local and international institutional supporters such as Fondation Sogebank, Fondation Capital Bank, the Inter-American Foundation and the Global Fund for Community Foundations.  All of you (individual and institutional donors) SEE and understand the need for our work.

What have we been up to?  Follow-up, follow-up, follow-up as part of our project management.  Leve Kanpe has community residents/families who are "secondary beneficiaries".  What does it mean?  We've given farm animals to a number of families with the understanding that they would give some of the animals' offspring to another family.  We are working with our community partners and the families to make sure that the follow-up is done per agreement.  This arrangement is also based on our philosophy of sharing.  We've helped you.  In turn, pass it on.  Make sure that others have the support that they need.  Together, we are stronger.  L'union fait la force.  Unity begets strength.

We're also making sure that we are recording and evaluating our impact.  We are not just looking at the numbers; we are also looking at the qualitative impact.  How much have our partners learned from our training program?  Are families using the new techniques that we've taught them about planting seeds and taking care of farm animals better?  Are our stakeholders satisfied with our approach?  Do they feel valued?  What is next for them?  Can we dream together?  Can we transmute dreams into reality?

We are here for the long-term.  Haiti has been going through (is going through) another period of political upheaval.  Some of it is good.  The questioning of corruption.  Some of it is not: groups and factions fighting among themselves to advance their interests at the detriment of our nation.  More than ever, we believe that our nation-building approach to community development bringing diverse people together to work on our communities is the solution.  Our fragmented society will not progress without healing and a deliberate effort of unlearning division and focusing on the common good.

We are focusing on taking the Haiti Community Foundation to its next phase.  We're building a strong institution that believes in putting communities and people first and investing in Haiti for the long-term.  Stay tune and please... JOIN US!

Thank you so much!

ESPWA and the Haiti Community Foundation Network on behalf of the Haitian Communities that we serve.
