Keeping Youth Sustainable Agriculture Alive

By Abihudi Kinyamgala | Project Leader

Dear Esteemed Donors and Supporters,

Warm greetings from Tanzania!

We sincerely appreciate your continued interest in our project, Help 200 Youth in Sustainable Agriculture in Tanzania. Your support and encouragement remain important to our mission of empowering young people and women to create sustainable livelihoods through agriculture.

Current Project Status

During this reporting period, we regret to report that we have not received any new donations to support the implementation of planned project activities. Consequently, we have not been able to undertake new field-based agricultural activities, conduct structured training sessions, or acquire the essential farming and irrigation equipment needed to expand our work.

Despite these financial challenges, NESODO remains active and committed to advancing the project, particularly by building on the foundation established during previous implementation periods.

Maintaining Previous Progress and Community Engagement

Our commitment to the communities and youth groups previously engaged through this initiative remains strong.

Building on our earlier work with groups such as Jitume kwa Kilimo and our collaboration with Joint People Development Organization (JOPEDO), we continue to recognize the importance of sustaining community interest and preserving the progress already made in promoting sustainable agriculture.

Our previous interventions introduced young people to crop rotation, small-scale farming, sustainable horticulture, and the potential of agriculture as a source of self-employment.

While limited resources have prevented us from expanding these activities, NESODO remains committed to continuing from where we previously stopped rather than abandoning the initiative.

Key Challenges

The main challenge remains the absence of new financial contributions, which has significantly affected our ability to:

  • Establish and operationalize the planned demonstration farms in Ushirombo and Katoro.
  • Provide structured agricultural and agribusiness training to additional youth.
  • Procure water pumps, drip irrigation systems, seeds, and essential farming tools.
  • Support youth groups with the resources necessary to establish or expand their agricultural enterprises.
  • Strengthen market linkages and provide continued technical mentorship.

These challenges have temporarily slowed implementation, particularly the transition from community mobilization and basic agricultural practices to more structured, income-generating activities.

Our Way Forward

NESODO remains determined to achieve the project's original objective of supporting 200 young people through sustainable agricultural practices.

Once additional funding becomes available, our immediate priorities will be to:

  1. Resume practical agricultural activities with previously mobilized youth groups.
  2. Strengthen existing community-based agricultural initiatives.
  3. Establish demonstration farms and practical learning opportunities.
  4. Introduce appropriate irrigation technologies to support production during dry seasons.
  5. Provide entrepreneurship and agribusiness training to help young people turn agricultural skills into sustainable income opportunities.

We also remain committed to identifying potential funding opportunities and partnerships that can complement GlobalGiving support and help sustain this initiative.

How You Can Help

We sincerely appeal to our supporters and potential donors to help us revive this important initiative.

Your contribution, regardless of its size, can help provide farming inputs, irrigation equipment, practical training, and mentorship opportunities for young people who are eager to engage in agriculture.

You can also support us by sharing our project with your networks, friends, institutions, and organizations interested in youth employment, sustainable agriculture, and climate-resilient livelihoods.

Every contribution brings us closer to helping young people transform agriculture into a pathway to employment, economic independence, and community development.

Our Appreciation

Although we have not achieved new field-level milestones during this reporting period due to funding limitations, our vision and commitment remain unchanged.

We believe that the foundation established through our previous interventions is worth sustaining and building upon. NESODO remains ready to continue this journey with the communities and youth groups we have already engaged.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us keep the dream of sustainable agricultural livelihoods alive in Tanzania.

Together, we can cultivate opportunities, strengthen resilience, and empower young people to become agents of their own economic development.
