Breastfeeding helps protect infants from infections and supports healthy growth. Many new mothers in Nigeria do not receive enough guidance on proper breastfeeding practices after delivery. This project will organize a maternal health program in Abuja during World Breastfeeding Week. Two hundred new mothers will receive education on breastfeeding techniques, infant nutrition, and early child care through group sessions led by trained health workers.
Many infants do not receive adequate breastfeeding support during the first months of life. According to the World Health Organization, breastfeeding helps reduce the risk of infections and supports healthy development in infants. However many new mothers lack access to reliable information on proper breastfeeding techniques and infant feeding practices.
The project will organize group education sessions for new mothers in Abuja during World Breastfeeding Week. Health workers will demonstrate proper breastfeeding techniques and provide guidance on infant nutrition and early child care. Participants will receive printed learning materials and have the opportunity to ask questions about breastfeeding challenges.
Improved breastfeeding knowledge can support healthier infants and reduce early childhood illness. When mothers learn correct breastfeeding practices they are more likely to feed infants safely and consistently. The knowledge shared during the sessions can also spread within families and communities, helping more mothers support healthy infant nutrition.
