By Sarah Lance | Executive Director
In the final term of 2009, our Program Director selected two new scholars, Bertha and Lucy. Like AGE’s other students, Bertha and Lucy were selected based on academic performance and financial need. Before AGE came into their lives, Bertha and Lucy were close to dropping out when their families could not afford to cover the costs of sending them to secondary school. Despite the fact that these girls were at the top of their classes in primary school and had been accepted to one of the top schools in Malawi, their chances of completing secondary school were quickly diminishing. Today, AGE Africa covers the full cost of their education so that they can focus on their school work and make plans for their future success.
