Challenge

In rural Nyara Villages, children return home from school - often hungry, unsupervised and vulnerable to social risks. Their lack of school resources, low literacy and psychosocial support - increase the risk of academic failure, dropout and unsafe situations. Many also face poverty, isolation and limited access to recreational opportunities. Without safe, engaging spaces after school, children miss valuable opportunities to strengthen their academic learning and nurture their overall well-being

Solution

The Leap Ladder Aftercare Program provides a structured, safe environment after school. Trained tutors offer daily support in Math and English, while coaches lead sports sessions to develop physical, social and life skills. Children also receive nutritious meals, psychosocial support and access to digital learning via NYD's rural Wi-Fi Network. This combined approach improves academic performance, strengthens well-being, reduces social risk and empowers children to grow confidently and dream big

Long-Term Impact

By providing safe, structured afternoons for 100+ children in Nyara Villages, the Leap Ladder Aftercare Program improves literacy, academic performance, and emotional well-being, reducing school dropout and unsafe situations. Children gain confidence, leadership and essential life skills, helping them support peers and families. Over time, these young learners become empowered leaders who strengthen communities, break cycles of poverty, foster resilience and create thriving rural villages.
