Since September 2024, Ethiopia has experienced recurring earthquakes, particularly in the Awash Fentale area of the Afar Region, with tremors affecting central regions, including Addis Ababa. On January 3, 2025, volcanic activity prompted mass evacuations, leaving families displaced and in urgent need of assistance. This project aims to provide life-sustaining food and non-food items to 100 vulnerable families by ensuring immediate access to essential supplies.
Since late September 2024, Ethiopia has been experiencing a series of earthquakes ranging from magnitudes 4.8 to 5.8, with the epicenter in the Awash Fentale area of the Afar Region. The tremors have affected several regions, including Addis Ababa, creating widespread fear and uncertainty. On January 3, 2025, signs of volcanic activity led to emergency evacuations. The ongoing earthquakes occur multiple times per day every day making it difficult for displaced families to rebuild or return.
This project will provide emergency relief to 100 vulnerable families affected by the earthquake by distributing: Shelter and Protection - Providing sleeping mats, plastic sheeting, and blankets to protect families from harsh weather conditions. Hygiene and Sanitation - Distributing soap, washing powder, sanitary supplies for women and girls, and baby diapers to promote personal hygiene. Water and Cooking Essentials and food assistance
By addressing urgent humanitarian needs, this project lays the groundwork for long-term recovery and resilience among displaced families. Providing essential food and non-food items ensures that vulnerable individuals, particularly women and children, receive the support they need to regain stability. Your support will make a lasting impact-helping families transition from fear and displacement to stability and hope. Together, we can ensure that these communities receive the assistance they need
