Hurricane Helene Response

Thanks to your generosity, Convoy of Hope continues to make a lasting impact across the country through ongoing long-term recovery efforts. Even now, homes remain damaged, families are displaced, and many survivors still need help from the impact of Hurricane Helene. Below are a few updates on our long-term recovery efforts

• Provided training to both church and business partners to better assess needs and find resources for individuals
• Continue to receive direct referrals for lost appliances and furniture from long-term recovery partners.
• An elderly man called Convoy of Hope to verify that he was receiving new furniture because he had lost his furniture due to Hurricane Helene. He began crying because he had never had new furniture before and was extremely grateful for everything!
• We had an 87-year-old woman who was referred to us who had been sleeping on an air mattress for over a year. We were able to provide her with a new bed.
• A quote from a mom with a family of 6 received a washer from Convoy of Hope. “Today we received our washer, and I confess I teared up a bit! As the gentleman delivered, they were shocked to see so many baskets of laundry and made a joke about it. We homeschool, and as the truck arrived, my children cheered! I can’t tell you the blessing this washer already is to our family! Please tell your team that today, they are heroes in our eyes! Blessed beyond measure!

Dear Friend,

As the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene approaches, Convoy of Hope remains active in the area, helping communities rebuild and providing hope to those in need.

This spring, Convoy started sending Field Teams to help long-term recovery efforts. Recently, in partnership with the Asheville Dream Center, a team helped rebuild a home for a couple who lost theirs in the storm. While in Asheville, the team also helped pack over 4,000 bags of groceries for Convoy's Children's Summer Feeding program. These groceries ensured kids were fed, even while they were out of school. Fellowship Asheville, another Convoy partner, runs a food pantry where families can stock up on kid-friendly food for the weekend. 

In August, Community Events were held in Swannanoa and Asheville, NC.  These areas were at 'ground zero' of the flooding that took place during Hurricane Helene. Together, the Community Events welcomed 1,400 guests who received free groceries, new children's shoes, and access to vital community services.
