Graduate Women International is please to share that, through donations to our Hegg-Hoffet program, we recently funded a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course for a woman displaced in South Africa.
The PGCE is a one-year qualification to train graduates who wish to become school teachers. GWI is pleased to support the PGCE because it provides training for the initial professional qualification of teachers and also trains other specialists to become qualified educators. The development of teachers is receiving high priority in South Africa, especially among disadvantaged communities. The PGCE is the only qualification that provides professional registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) for graduates with degrees other than the Bachelor of Education. The funding of this recent Hegg-Hoffet grant will produce additional women teachers who will help to decrease the barriers girls face when trying to get an education.
This award was especially valuable because the PGCE is not offered by distance-learning or by correspondence.
