Maternal Nutrition

Family planning talk before giving prenatals

We have been supporting maternal health and nutrition for the last fifteen years by providing prenatal vitamins to pregnant and lactating women. We are currently serving 1068 women per year. Last year, we began providing these vitamins/micronutrients to all women of childbearing age who are not using contraception, so their bodies will have improved nutrition and are more prepared for pregnancy.

Five years ago we started a permaculture program which gives the mothers access to their own gardens and teaches them about gardening and food preparation. Due to economic pressures and transportation difficulties, getting fresh nutritious food is very difficult, so growing their own food can greatly improve their nutrition.

Our ultimate goal is that everyone has their own garden and can grow their own nutritious foods. Until we reach this goal, your support can help us provide nutritional supplements for women who are malnourished. This will allow them to have a healthy pregnancy and for their children to be born at a healthy weight. This gives the children a head start at growing to their full potential.
