Healthy Futures for Haiti's Children

C2C is excited to share an update on our "Healthy Futures for Haiti's Children" project with our amazing GlobalGiving community!

Thanks to your generous support, C2C is improving child health in Haiti through vital services like nutrition monitoring, support, and vaccination against infectious diseases. Through a comprehensive approach that includes diagnosis, treatment, and community education, we are helping families build healthier futures.

By joining C2C’s GlobalGiving community, you are directly supporting one of our most important child health initiatives — our malnutrition program. This program provides families with essential services, including:

• Promotion of early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding, both in clinics and within the community
  
  
• Monthly nutritional monitoring, including weight checks and screenings for children aged 6–59 months
  
  
• Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination at the end of nutritional treatment
  
  
• Preventive and follow-up phone calls to encourage consistent participation in weekly meetings
  
  
• Vitamin A supplementation and deworming with albendazole
  
  
• Systematic follow-up for missed appointments or program dropouts related to vaccination or nutrition
  
  

Thanks to your support, we’ve reached 3,351 children who had not previously received C2C’s services!

Among these:

• 10 children were admitted to our malnutrition program for severe malnutrition
  
  
• 59 children were admitted for moderate malnutrition
  
  
• 53 children have already graduated from the program this year — a major milestone on their path to a healthy future!

Program Highlights from the Last Few Months

Nutrition and Education Clubs: We’ve hosted educational sessions for breastfeeding mothers, including cooking demonstrations to teach families how to prepare nutritious meals like hearty soups for their children.

Community-Based Counseling: To reduce dropout rates and increase access for families living far from our clinics, we launched community-based malnutrition counseling to complement our in-clinic services.

Nutrition Clubs for Recovered Children: We're piloting nutrition clubs for parents of children who have completed the program. We look forward to sharing more about this initiative in future updates!

Home Visits: Our staff conducted home visits for children with severe malnutrition, tracking progress and providing Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF).

Tackling Challenges

While we’ve made great progress, we are also addressing ongoing challenges — including vaccine shortages, difficulties in tracking children post-graduation (due to migration or relocation), and inconsistencies in clinic visit attendance. Delivering healthcare in Haiti is never easy, but it’s especially complex when serving the most vulnerable populations.
