Happy fall in the northern hemisphere! We've had lots of visits over the past few months with short term volunteers who have made our community lunches very fun! I started looking through my recipes for dishes/regions where families taught me a few recipes that aren't enough for our larger monthly dinners, but are perfect for a lunch. This allowed us to open our doors to some new and exciting flavours that I hadn't eaten in ages! And we themed some of them around the visits and volunteers we had helping out, including Venezuelan cuisine with our Venezuelan project participant and friend Sandra, plus extra hands from our enthusiastic volunteer Melissa; Trinidadian cuisine with our friend Kayla visiting from Toronto; and food from the Colombian coast featuring recipes from Leonel! Our customers are loving the flavours as is my nostalgic side!
In renovation/repairs news, our biodigester is now providing liquid nutrients to our gardens, and hopefully for my next report we'll be cooking with its gas in the kitchen too. We've also started installing new safety rails above the rooftop kitchen, which I'll share in our next report as well as how we'll use that space.
Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts, and talk to you soon!
Brian
