Hundreds of students in rural Ghana walk long distances to school barefoot, risking injuries, infections, and missed educational opportunities. Friends of Adaklu is launching the Healthy Feet Healthy Mind project to collect and distribute new and gently used shoes and sneakers to vulnerable students in the Adaklu District. Donations will help ship shoes and educational supplies to Ghana, protecting children's health, dignity, and ability to succeed in school.
In communities in Ghana, many children do not have shoes. Walking barefoot exposes students to cuts, infections, parasites, and painful injuries that affect their health and school attendance.
This project will collect new and gently used shoes from schools, families, community groups, and donors in the United States and ship them to students in rural Ghana. Funds raised through GlobalGiving will support the cost of shipping the shoes and educational supplies. By providing proper footwear, students will be safer, healthier, and better able to attend school and participate in learning activities with confidence.
The Healthy Feet Healthy Mind Project will improve the health, safety, and school participation of hundreds of students in the Adaklu District. Proper footwear will help reduce injuries and infections while increasing confidence and attendance. The project will also build long-term partnerships between schools, communities, and supporters in the U.S. and Ghana, creating a sustainable network of support for vulnerable students.
