The Clinica de Esperanza was founded to take care of chronic as well as acute needs. Our village clinics are not able to care for a patient with a long term illness like Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Disease, Malnutrition. These needs are met by keeping the clinic open full time to provide free care and medication to the poor in Honduras.
On August 15, 2014; the clinic began the 8th year of open doors for the poor. Dr. Olga, our full time Honduran physician reported that 29,967 patients have been seen, treated and given medications to date. Thousands were enrolled in our feeding program and their progress was tracked for weight gain and well being. Over the summer Torch teams painted, repaired, assisted with medical care in surrounding villages.
Thanks to the help of our donors we were able to provide $2,546 worth of medications and vitamins for the people. The most amazing part being the vitamins. Next time you go to a store, be thankful you can afford them. They view vitamins as their salvation, as a way to get back some energy to make up for lack of food. They were $95.00 for a bottle of 100 near the airport. We finally found a place that had them for $45.00 a bottle. Imagine how many bottles needed for seeing just the 583 pateints seen in June in village clinics. We will pack more from the states next year. Thanks for giving part of what was needed to get us thorough this summer.
