Sharing our proud moment – Engro Foundation Impact Award

We are delighted to share that UM Healthcare Trust won runner-up, “ I am the Change ”, Impact award, nation-wide. I Am The Change (IATC) is a flagship initiative of Engro, intended to pay tribute to local change agents who have worked tirelessly to improve access to education, health-care and livelihoods for Pakistan’s poorest of the poor. The initiative aims to collaborate with the corporate and the philanthropic sectors of the country. The ceremony for award distribution took place on in Karachi on February 7, 2019.

UM Healthcare treats more than 50,000 patients (45% women) annually, majority of whom live below less than $2/day, in resource constrained rural areas of Pakistan.

Treatments in Numbers

During this quarter, more than 3,088 patients of which 44% are female and 28% children were treated at UM Healthcare Trust. Acute Respiratory Infection remained alarming in children (on average 150 cases). According to PubMed Central®, Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is the major cause of mortality among children aged less than 5 years, especially in developing countries like Pakistan. In women majority of the cases reported were of Urinary Tract Infection whereas Diabetes mellitus were reported equal for both males and females.
